The JomaDeals “Ode to Mom” 20-ish Part Series
Part 15: Ode to the Mom Who Told You So
Let’s hear it for the Mom Who Told You So.
You didn’t listen when she told you not to jump off the roof with the garbage sack parachute because it wouldn’t work like it does in the cartoons. One trip to the emergency room later, and your mom wrote, “I told you so,” right on your plaster cast.
You didn’t listen when your mom told you not too eat all of your Halloween candy in one sitting. One long night in front of the toilet later, your mother was making a Candy Graham saying the same thing (I hate to SNICKER at such a NERD but you threw up BABY RUTH all over the ROCKY ROAD).
You didn’t listen when she told you to not drink too much at frat parties, to study pre-med instead of English, or to get a steady job with that pharmaceutical company instead of trying to start your own band, and now a dozen nasty hangovers, no marketable skills, and a dust-covered drum set later, your mother gets to say she told you so once again.
So now, your mother is telling you that she really wants a cute, nature-esque, down to earth and comforting picture frame, preferably from a trusted craftsman like Wedgewood. And she’d prefer you don’t spend full price on it, because she doesn’t want you to make a big fuss. What are you going to do? Smart kid. You can be taught.
Get today’s deal of the day, this Wedgewood Wild Strawberry picture frame, sold today at a 58% discount. You’ll make your mother proud. And you won’t end up in the hospital with broken vertebrae from trying to skateboard in an empty pool like you saw in the movie Lords of Dogtown (It’s just a movie, sweetie).

Yesterday, I took my digital camera, emptied all the contents onto iphoto, uploaded them to facebook, myspace, and flickr, then went out and took a thousand more and repeated the whole process. Sure, it’s fun. That’s how we all do pictures these days. But kids, I’d like to tell you a story about the good ol’ days. Back when I was about your age, people took pictures with cameras not much different than yours. But instead of being stored on a digital memory card, the image was physically burned onto something called “film,” a sheet of plastic coated with a special emulsion and bonded by gelatin. Old fashion, I know, but that’s how we did it. And no, you couldn’t see the picture right away. You had to take the film out of the camera and give it to a professional who would do something called “developing.” Then he’d give you printed versions of the pictures that looked a little like postcards. A postcard? It’s like an email with a picture attached made of paper that takes 3-7 days to get to someone. I know, that’s a long time. Anyway, after you got your pictures you’d put your favorite ones in a picture frame, and that was it. You didn’t post it for the whole world to see, only the people who came into your home. It once was, and still is by a few of us old people, the best way to display your most cherished memories of your favorite people. Today’s deal of the day is one of those relics from the past, a high quality picture frame from Wedgewood. Here’s a bit o’ fun: Buy today’s daily deal, print out one of your favorite facebook pictures, put it in this frame, and stick it on your wall. See if that doesn’t make the picture just a little more special and make your home just a little more cozy. And just like your facebook profile pic, you can change the pic in the frame any time you want. Yes, the wonders of an age gone by.
